The Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB) reaches 10 years of being the voice of indigenous peoples and local communities in the region. “We are 10 years in the frontlines, we are forests of people” is the slogan of the celebrations which will begin with the VIII Mesoamerican Territorial Congress, a series of virtual events that will take place from Tuesday 8th to Thursday, December 10th. This congress will go over the last decade’s achievements, obstacles, and lessons, as well as the challenges ahead.
The meeting will begin with the Virtual Assembly of Territorial Female Leaders on December 8th from 9:00 AM Central America Time, 10:00 am Panama time. It will be lead by the Coordinator of Mesoamerican WomenTerritorial Leaders, which is also celebrating its second anniversary. The event’s main theme will be “Gender equity is part of the solution to climate change”and the landscape of the territorial agenda with a regional gender focus will be analyzed.
On Wednesday, December 9th from 9:30 AM Central American Time, 10:30 am Panama time, the Mesoamerican Leadership School will make a presentation about its construction and trajectory. In addition, the panel “Biodiversity protection and territorial governance: contribution and challenges from Mesoamerican youth” will be held, in which young leaders from the region will participate.
The celebration will end with the AMPB Annual Assembly on Thursday, December 10th from 9:00 AM Central America Time, 10:00 am Panama time. The main theme will be “A decade for the strife and defense of territorial rights”, there will be a reflection on the journey of the last 10 years, a discussion about the territorial management regarding hurricanes and the pandemic will take place, and The AMPB Manifesto will be released.
