With the objective of developing capacities for administration and finances for project management in the organizations of indigenous peoples and local communities that make up the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB), the technical teams of the community bases participated in the “Financial administrative strengthening workshop with emphasis on management and administration of social projects” .
The indigenous peoples and local communities of Mesoamerica continue to face strong pressures for the control of natural resources, invasions of community lands and violations of rights that increase social, environmental and political vulnerability, threatening life and livelihoods. Added to this are the internal changes experienced by territorial organizations; the change of authorities and their labor mobility can affect the continuity in the application of knowledge for the good administrative-financial management of the projects. This means that constant training is required for new staff and leadership.
To this end, the AMPB administrative-financial area developed the workshop from October 18 to 21 . In it, the territorial organizations become familiar with the basic concepts of administration and finance, the cycle of a project and its applicability. The activity addressed basic concepts of the project cycle, the fund rendering system, operating manuals, project audit principles and includes an introductory module to Excel. The participants received a certificate for passing the Basic Excel course, issued by the American College University.
The technical teams of the Bribri Cabécar Indigenous Network -RIBCA- (Costa Rica); FEPROAH (Honduras); the Guna Bundorgan Women’s Network and the Association of Ipeti-Emberá Artisan Women – Amarie Embera (Panama); the Association of Forest Communities of Petén (Guatemala); Inhwanka Raya and Mayangna Nation (Nicaragua) participated in the workshop. The activity brought together AMPB member organizations as well as members of the Coordinator of Territorial Women Leaders of Mesoamerica and the Mesoamerican School of Leadership – AMPB .
