From July 28 to 30, the Federation of Agroforestry Producers of Honduras (FEPROAH) held an Extraordinary Assembly as part of the project: “Identity, territory, local communities and intergenerational integration for the promotion of sustainable development and improvement of the quality of life”, as part of the institutional and organizational strengthening process 2021 of the federation.
According to Amalia Hernández, president of FEPROAH, one of the main results after this assembly was the creation of the women’s organization, made up of women representatives of FEPROAH, allowing them the recognition of active participation in decision-making processes.
Another result of the meeting was the affiliation of new cooperatives, which are part of the Rural Banks of the departments of Yoro, Comayagua, and Atlántida, interested in learning more about the work of FEPROAH.
The agenda of this event included the participation of guests Levi Sucre from the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB), Norma Rodríguez from the Honduran Council of Cooperatives (CHC), Delmi Cruz from the National Service of Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses (SENPRENDE), Mirna Ramos from the Institute of Forest Conservation (ICF), the Board of Directors and Members of FEPROAH.
About FEPROAH
The Federation of Agroforestry Producers of Honduras (FEPROAH) was created in 2000 as an alternative to the administration of community forest management and business development processes. It is made up of 43 community enterprises and has more than 3,000 members.
One of the federation’s main objectives is to improve the representativeness and legitimacy of economic agents linked to the forest, to develop forest governance platforms.
It also promotes the recognition of rights and access to forest resources for forest-dependent people and communities, enabling the creation, development, and implementation of national strategies aimed at reducing deforestation and restoring the forest landscape.
