The Coordinator of Territorial Women Leaders of Mesoamerica (CMLT) and the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB) announce the opening of the Mesoamerican Fund for Strengthening Political and Business Capacities of Indigenous Women and Local Communities (FOMUJER), with the objective of improving the food security of the indigenous and community-based peoples of the Mesoamerican region who protect, care for and manage important areas of forests.
The Coordinator of Territorial Women Leaders of Mesoamerica is a semi-autonomous unit of the AMPB for dialogue, strengthening and making visible the actions led by organized women in their territories as mitigation and adaptation strategies against climate change. Our agenda is based on the search for a balance between the goals of Sustainable Development Goal number 5 -Gender equality- and number 13 -Action for the climate.
Women in our region are affected by climate change disproportionately in relation to men. The advance of the agricultural frontier, prolonged drought, natural disasters and pandemics such as COVID 19, have increased insecurity in the territories and the vulnerability of women due to shortages.
Project proposals should clearly refer to one or more of the following priorities:
- Use of forest seeds.
- Cultivation of medicinal herbs.
- Production of forest, medicinal and agroforestry nurseries.
- Planting of biointensive orchards.
- Creole seed bank.
Indigenous and community-based women’s organizations that are members or in areas of influence of the AMPB may apply to this call, this includes networks or organizations of grassroots women, local agricultural and forestry producers, local women with disabilities and initiatives of young indigenous women and community-based.
